Encouraging Perseverance: Patty Ferrant builds on the sense of community that students are developing, and orients the community to supporting individuals’ capacity to get support and persevere. The students are starting to take on her charge of needing to support each other’s learning as well as their own, and they are starting to get that there are various individual and collective strategies to help them persevere with mathematical thinking.
