Clip 7/15: Modeling with Polynomials Lesson - Part 1E
Overview
Amy Burke asks her students to revisit and revise their initial conjecture, flipping their paper and using the analysis of the data set, identifying the cut size they believe will maximize the volume. Students use calculators and quietly discuss their ideas.
One student asks Burke about another group’s work, identifying an error in their data. Burke praises the student’s “valid argument,” but says she wants to see “how that argument might come out later.”

After the incorrect table was put on the board, to my knowledge, there was really only one student or pair of students in the room that recognized that something was off from their table. Had we had more time, I would've loved to go into that a little more. I tried to make sure that he shared that at the very end, that they recognized that the volume on ... I forgot what it was, the two cut fives, or something, was incorrect.
