Clip 17/20: Multiplying and Factoring Polynomial Expressions Debrief Part 3
Overview
Melissa Nix and SVMI mathematics coach Pam Brousseau discuss Melissa’s choice to vary the ways in which students were finding missing information ("Here's the area, find the dimensions. Here are the dimensions, find the area”).
Melissa describes her goal to have students solidify the interplay between concepts, aiming to eventually have them be able to use inverse operations with polynomials. For Melissa, the use of visual representations helps students see their own thinking.

It's so important in a classroom to make sure students all take part in that conversation. So, you have to scaffold it in a way. You have to set up a classroom in a way that students have a voice, so that they are able to build their own ownership of the mathematics.
