Clip 15/20: Multiplying and Factoring Polynomial Expressions Debrief Part 1
Overview
SVMI mathematics coach Pam Brousseau begins her debrief of the lesson with Melissa Nix by asking her to identify what she thought went well during the lesson. Melissa responds that she felt like the cognitive demand was appropriate, and that she saw fewer student misconceptions than she had anticipated.
Melissa notes that her initial number talk tasks may have helped solidify students’ understandings. She states that she prefers to move from concrete to abstract, incorporating manipulatives and visual representations as needed to deepen students’ thinking.

What we expect of our students in terms of welcoming peer feedback, we need to model that too in our own classrooms. It shouldn't be a closed door to other teachers’ feedback, if possible. Anyone can come into our classroom at any time and help me teach, watch me teach, reflect on my teaching, give me feedback. I'm still eager to get feedback on how I can do a better job at presenting, even at 19 years in.
